February 2009
For Immediate Release
Otterville, Ontario – The Otter Creek Golf Club has been included on Score magazine’s list of nominees for Best New Course in Canada for 2009. Not surprising, since opening the front nine holes of the championship layout in May and the back nine the last week of June 2008, the golf course has received glowing reviews from everyone who has made the trip to the small rural town of Otterville (pop. 500).
“We had an excellent year last year and look forward to building on our success in 2009,” says director of golf Darren Allan. “We are going to continue spreading the word about Otter Creek because everyone who came here last year was glad that they did,” says Allan who is passionate about building Otter Creek’s reputation as one of the premier public access courses in southwestern Ontario.
Otter Creek superintendent Randy Booker is also excited about the 2009 season and is extremely pleased with the way the course has weathered the cold winter months. “We are looking great for the spring and hope to get the flags in the ground right away,” says Booker who eagerly awaits the arrival of summer. “We haven’t had to deal with any turf issues this year. Hopefully Mother Nature will continue to cooperate with us and we get off to a fast start,” says Booker who has been involved with Otter Creek since day one.
Designed by veteran golf course architect Dick Kirkpatrick, the Otter Creek Golf Club is located 20 minutes south of Woodstock. The golf course is an outstanding 18-hole layout that features a thoughtful collection of holes that extend effortlessly over 300 acres of farmland and tree-lined terrain. Considering much of the land was previously used for tobacco farming, the land is deceptively hilly enabling Kirkpatrick to route several holes along and through the wooded valleys of Otter and Spittler Creeks.
New for 2009 will be the Otter Creek practice facility which is scheduled to open mid summer and the addition of sixty-five 2009 E-Z-GO RXV golf cars. Complementing the golf course will be a rustic 5,000 square-foot clubhouse thoughtfully designed by Oakville architect Gus Ricci to accommodate tournaments, banquets and other social events. Construction is slated to begin later this year. The Grand Opening of the clubhouse is scheduled for April 2010.
Otter Creek features 5 sets of tees ranging from 4,700 to 7,100 yards. Green fees are $70 with cart throughout the week and $77 with cart on weekends and holidays.
